ISPR denies report

By Farman Ali

ISLAMABAD, Feb 17: An army spokesman on Tuesday denied reports that Pakistan and US had launched a joint operation in tribal areas of Pakistan. "There is no question of US troops' operation in the tribal areas ," Maj-Gen Shaukat Sultan, Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations, told Dawn late Tuesday.

When asked about the reports, Gen Sultan said: "There is no question of American troops' operation inside Pakistani territory. What they (US) are going to do in Afghanistan is none of our concern."

Replying to a question regarding Pakistani troops' operation in the troubled area, he said there was always a plan to launch an operation against the unwanted elements but "at the moment there is no such operation going on there."

When asked about the possibility of launching any such operation tomorrow, he said: "We never disclose our plans."
