140 hurt during BD strike

DHAKA, Feb 16: Over 140 people were injured as law enforcement personnel clashed with Awami League activists different places in Dhaka during a dawn-to-dusk general strike enforced by the opposition party.

Police arrested more than 200 people, including about 50 women. Police did not aloow the activists to assemble at any particular place to bring out processions.

It was the third general strike in five days that the Awami League has enforced as part of its campaign to force the resignation of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's government.
