Clijsters outclasses Pierce in final

PARIS, Feb 15: Top seed Kim Clijsters outclassed local favourite Mary Pierce 6-2 6-1 to win her first tournament of the season in the Paris Open. The Belgian world number two outpaced and overpowered the former Australian and French Open champion in just 58 minutes.

Pierce, nearing her best level after being plagued by injury over the past few season, had won the tournament in 1998 but she was forced to bow to the power of Clijsters on Sunday.

Fish upsets Agassi:

SAN JOSE: Third seed Mardy Fish claimed one of the biggest wins of his career on Saturday when he beat an angry Andre Agassi 5-7 6-4 6-2 for a place in the final of the San Jose Open.

Fish will meet top seed Andy Roddick, who delivered another big serving display to down fellow American Robert Kendrick 7-6 6-2. After winning the first set, Agassi lost control of the game with some wayward serving.

The five times champion completely fell apart on the third set and was broken twice as he littered the court with errors. Upset with his serving and some questionable line calls, Agassi appeared to mock Fish's fist pumping celebrations in the final game of the second set.

Results

1-Andy Roddick (U.S.) beat Robert Kendrick (U.S.) 7-6 (7-3) 6-2

3-Mardy Fish (U.S.) beat 2-Andre Agassi (U.S.) 5-7 6-4 6-2.

First career title:

Milan: Anthony Dupuis earned his first career title at the advanced age of 30 on Sunday, outlasting Croatian teenager Mario Ancic 6-4, 6-7 (12-14), 7-6 (7-5) in the final of the 375,570-euros Indesit Milan Indoor.

The late-career success for the Frenchman denied Ancic, 19, the chance to become the second from his nation after Goran Ivanisevic to lift the title in Milan. -Agencies
