NAWABSHAH, Feb 15: A resident of Sath Meel, Allah Dad Mari, has accused the police of keeping a newly married couple in illegal detention. Speaking at a press conference at the press club on Sunday, he said his nephew Masoom Mari and Rukhsana Mari had married in Karachi after appearing before a judicial magistrate.

He said the couple was arrested by the Hub police and was handed over to the Daur police who had kept them in lock-up and were pressurizing the girl to change her statement.

He said Nawab Mari, the father of Rukhsana, with the help of ASI Noor Mohammad Mari, first lodged a fake case at the Sath Meel police station against nine persons for kidnapping Rukhsana.

The police arrested Mehboob and Mubarak who were later released by the judicial magistrate, Nawabshah, Allah Dad said. He demanded that the higher-ups should take action against the police for keeping the couple in illegal detention and produce them before a court to record their statements.
