KARACHI, Feb 15: At least 65 couples tied the knot at a mass wedding at Nishtar Park on Sunday night as thousands of their family members turned up, some from the interior of Sindh, to witness the rare and happy event.

The mass wedding is organized by the Ghousia Welfare Trust at Nishtar Park on an annual basis. The brides and grooms were taken to the stage in carriages as a police band performed. Philanthropists as well as the Sindh government paid for the dowries and food.

Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, chief minister Sardar Ali Mohammad Mahar and many provincial ministers, including Dr Irfan Gul Magsi and Dr Saeeda Malik, also attended the ceremony.

Most relatives of the couples came from Mirpurkhas, Mithi, Badin, Golarchi, Nagar Parker, Dadu, Hyderabad, Thatta, Khairpur, Sehwan Sharif, Larkana, Tharo, Kashmore, Tando Adam, Shahdadpur and Sanghar.
