DHAKA, Feb 14: Over 100 people, including Awami League presidium member Begum Motia Chowdhury and Juba League Chairman Jahangir Kabir Nanak, were injured as sporadic clashes marked the AL-sponsored dawn-to-dusk strike across Bangladesh on Saturday.

Police rounded up about 200 people from different parts in the city on charge of picketing.

The Juba League, the youth front of the Awami League, has called a countrywide dawn-to-dusk strike tomorrow (Monday) in protest against the police attack on its chairman.

Apart from the capital city, the pro- and anti-shutdown activists clashed in several district headquarters, including those of Bogra and Sirajganj, while police backed the anti-strike activists belonging to the ruling BNP.

The main opposition Awami League called the countrywide shutdown in protest against police atrocities on party leaders and activists during strike hours on Thursday and also to press home its 15-point charter of demand.
