LAHORE: Kite flying with banned material won't be allowed

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, Feb 14: District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood has said the city district government had constituted teams for arresting all those flying kites with prohibited materials on Basant and getting cases registered against them.

Talking to people here on Saturday, the Nazim said the CDG was ready to deal with the people flying kites with prohibited materials like metal wire, nylon and glass-coated thread and had constituted teams for locating and nabbing them indiscriminately.

No one found flying a kite with prohibited materials would be spared, Mian Amer said.

He urged the parents and elders to keep an eye on their children flying kites on Basant and ensure that they did not use metal wire or nylon or glass-coated thread for the purpose.

He said that the failure of parents and elders to check the use of prohibited materials for flying kites would cause frequent power supply disruptions and even injuries to the motorcyclists on the roads on Basant.

The Nazim said that traffic police had been directed to check parking of motor vehicles on roads in Basant. Motor vehicles parked outside hotels on The Mall and houses in residential areas would be lifted and released only after payment of fine.

Meanwhile, Anti-Kite-Flying Democratic Chairman Khwaja Izhar Amritsari expressed resentment against the remarks of Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool describing the Basant a seasonal festival meant for expression of joy.

He said in a statement that Basant was not a seasonal festival but its celebrations were started in the memory of a Hindu prosecuted for giving derogatory remarks against the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him). Maharaja Ranjeet Singh also used to participate in Basant along with the Hindus.
