Saleem and Adil give Lahore lead

LAHORE, Feb 11: Fine unbeaten batting by Saleem Elahi and Adil Nisar enabled Lahore earn a 43-run first innings lead over Multan in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy match at the Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday.

Saleem, overlooked by national selectors for the camp, and the left-handed Adil shared an unbroken partnership of 145 for the third wicket as Lahore made 229 for two in response to Multan's 186.

Saleem slammed 10 boundaries in his 199-ball knock of 70 in a stay of 257 minutes. Adil, on the other hand, also hit 10 fours on his way to 75 off 160 balls in 162 minutes.

Test opener Imran Farhat failed once again when he was caught by Mohammad Shafiq off pacer Mohammad Irshad for only seven. Taufiq Umar, the other Test opener, however, scored a solid 46, hitting seven fours and faced 81 balls.

Earlier, Multan added just 35 runs to their overnight score of 151 for seven. Pacemen Mohammad Khalil,Abdul Razzaq and off-spinner Zeeshan Safeer claimed three wickets each.
