Jamali pledges to uphold democracy


ISLAMABAD, Feb 11: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Wednesday said the government has introduced the culture of tolerance and accommodation in politics and would always uphold democratic norms and principles.

He made these remarks while talking to Chief Minister Sindh, Sardar Ali Muhammad Mahar who called on him at the Prime Minister's Secretariat here. The prime Minister said "we respect the mandate of others and expect from others to respect our mandate".

He said the government has introduced the culture of tolerance and accommodation in politics, something that was missing previously. "We would always uphold democratic norms and principles," he said and added, "we have set up healthy traditions which we would like to follow in letter and spirit," observed the prime minister.

The prime minister said that the country has been put on the right direction and its all-economic indicators are showing an upward trend. The completion of these projects would usher in an era of prosperity and socio-economic development in the province, he added.

The prime minister said that his government will continue to accord priority to improving the socio-economic condition of the people and it would not spare any effort in this regard. The two leaders also exchanged views on the political situation, working of the alliance in the province and the development projects being executed there.

POLICE ORDINANCE: Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control, Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat and MNA Talib Nakai called on Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali here at Prime Minister's Secretariat on Wednesday.

The interior minister briefed the prime minister about the overall law and order situation in the country. He also briefed the prime minister on the Police Order, which will revamp the police department to make subservient to the public.

The prime minister directed the interior Minister to speed up efforts for the implementation of the Police Ordinance. -APP
