Published February 12, 2004

DADU, Feb 11: A major power breakdown paralyzed civic life in Johi, Wahi Pandhi, Tando Raheem, Drigh Bala and Chhinni towns and 100 villages of the Johi taluka on Wednesday.

The power supply remained suspended from 8am to 6pm, affecting business activities and the communication system in the area. Residents Bakht Jamal Soomro and Akbar Lashari alleged that Hesco officials suspended power supply by creating artificial faults in different areas.

They said the power supply remained suspended for 10 hours daily for the last three days. A duty official at the grid station said the power supply was closed to the Johi taluka due to the repair work of a main line.

TORTURE: A man, Ali Anwar Mallah, resident of Koti Khokhar, died of alleged police torture on Monday.

The Thariri Mohabbat police had arrested the man on the charge of oil theft from a Parco pipeline three days back. Relatives of Mr Mallah, after receiving the body from a local hospital held a protest demonstration in the Sita Road town.
