HYDERABAD, Feb 11: The president of Pakistan Medical Association, Sindh chapter, Dr Noor Mohammad Memon, has expressed concern over reports about a disqualification of senior and deserving doctors for their selection as the director-general of Sindh health services.

In a statement on Tuesday, he said the rule of seniority for postings on this top slot was established during the past three tenures. Dr Memon said unproved charges and biased reports against some senior officials and gender discrimination against others would result into undue credit to incompetent officials.

He said when woman could become secretaries to the government, MNAs and MPAs and even ministers, there was no reason why the senior most person in the cadre, who has already held a provincial post and proved her mettle, could not become DG Health.

He said if decision-makers were bent upon depriving a woman of her legal right only on the basis of gender, it might lead to legal and human rights issues. The PMA president stressed urgent need for a prompt decision in the matter to stop exploitation of professionals and the race for the post.
