GUJRANWALA: 'Dead' PO arrested

GUJRANWALA, Feb 8: A proclaimed offender, declared 'dead' by his family, was arrested from Farid Town on Sunday. Police said Khalid Mahmood, alias Imtiaz, of Dhupai Singh village of Wazirabad was wanted by police in around 40 cases of dacoity, murder and police encounters.

The accused went to Karachi two years ago and his family obtained his death certificate from a union council which was presented to police. Khalid was going to Farid Town when his motorcycle was intercepted by traffic police head constable Farid Khan and constable Mukhtar at a picket. Khalid could not produce documents of the motorcycle and was taken to the Satellite Town police station where he was identified.

Later, Khalid was handed over to Wazirabad police. The district police officer announced cash prize and commendation certificate for the traffic policemen.

STRIKE: The revenue department Naushera Virkan tehsil have decided to join the strike of Kamoki and Gujranwala Saddar patwaris. They decided on Saturday that a hunger strike camp would be set up in the tehsil office on Monday (today) if cases against two patwaris and a qanoongo were not withdrawn.

Meanwhile, Revenue Patwaris Association central president Sahibzada Hamid Amin threatened that the strike of would be observed throughout the division if fabricated cases against two patwaris and a qanoongo were not withdrawn by Monday (today).
