HYDERABAD, Feb 8: Chakki Owners Association leader Haji Nawab Ali has said that 234 'chakkis' of the district are lying closed as no wheat has been supplied to them for about 12 days.
Talking to this correspondent on Sunday, he said if the situation remained unchanged, the people would have to face an acute shortage of wheat flour. He said wheat was not available even in the open market and added that at some places it was being sold at Rs1,150 per 100 kg.
He said that a delegation of the association had met with the Sindh food secretary at Karachi and apprised him of the whole situation. He said the 'chakki' owners had been deprived of their weekly quota of first week of February and the deputy director food had been directed to issue only 36 bags per unit during the second week.
He said this was just a peanut as 36 bags could be crushed in one day. He alleged that on the other hand the roller flour mills had been supplied 500 bags each.
He warned that if the food department failed to allocate monthly quota to the 'chakki' owners, a general body meeting would be held on Tuesday to chalk out future course of action. He made it clear that the 'chakki' owners would not be responsible for a shortage of wheat flour in the district specially in the city.
IT LIBRARY: A library comprising books and material on information technology was set up at the Government Nazareth Girls College on Saturday.
American Consulate Karachi director information Munawar Sultana Raziuddin and a hardware specialist established the library which included an encyclopaedia, books, dictionaries, CDs, a computer and a printer.
DCO Ali Akbar Shah, college principal Aftab Ahsan Qureshi, vice-principal Professor Roshan Memon and other senior teachers were also present on the occasion. IT teachers Professor Asif Javed, Professor Shahida Bughio, and library staff were imparted training and instructions about the use of library.
