LAHORE: Labour moot on 19th

LAHORE, Feb 7: Representatives of trade unions from all over the country will attend the national conference of the All-Pakistan Federation of Trade Unions on Feb 19, 2004, at the Bakhtiar Labour Hall.

The wide-ranging agenda of the conference includes socio-economic problems such as price-hike, meagre wages, rising unemployment, aggravating poverty and violation and suppression of basic rights of the workers.

The impact of de-regulation and privatization policy, absence of safety culture and provision of social protection of workers, abolition of feudalism and need to establish an egalitarian society based upon social justice are also on the agenda, says a press release issued by the federation head-office here on Saturday.

Haji Muhammad Amin Rathore, the president of the federation, will preside over the conference while its secretary-general Khurshid Ahmad will present a special report on the role of labour movement in establishing an egalitarian society.

It also announced a 60-member reception committee, headed by Abdul Hameed Butt (chairman) and Faiz Ahmad (secretary), to finalize the arrangements for the conference.-APP
