Japan to finance water projects

PESHAWAR, Feb 5: The Japanese organization JAICA will launch water supply schemes in Abbotabad district for the provision of potable water to inhabitants.

A two-member delegation of JAICA called on the NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah here at the Governor's House on Thursday to discuss the Abbottabad water supply scheme. District Nazim Ghulam Mustafa Jadoon and other officials concerned were also present at the occasion.

The project, it was stated, would provide plenty ofpotable water to the resident of Abbottabad andits surrounding areas. The project would as estimated cost Rs1,300 million, to be provided by Japan.

The governor urged that the operating cost should be minimized keeping in view the level of poverty in the area and efforts should be made to reduce the burden over the stakeholders.

He also stressed the need of changing the complexion of the scheme to make it more feasible. He hoped that our reservations and preferences about the scheme would be conveyed to the Japanese government. The delegation on this occasion highlighted various technical aspects of the project.
