37 die in Beijing festival accident
BEIJING, Feb 5: At least 37 people were killed and 15 injured during a crowded Lantern Festival gathering on Thursday night in suburban Beijing.
"During the current second annual Lantern Festival in Miyun county's Mihong Park, Beijing municipality, a tourist fell on a bridge, causing a stampede by tourists and creating a major tragic incident involving deaths and injuries," the report said.
"At present, there are 37 deaths, 15 injuries," it said. Quoting unnamed police sources, the English version of Xinhua said the accident occurred in Miyun county, northeast of the capital. -AFP
