CENTURION, Feb 1: West Indies opener Shivnarine Chanderpaul struck a whirlwind 92 to pave the way for a seven-wicket win over South Africa in the fourth One-day International and keep the five-match series alive on Sunday.

Chanderpaul hit 10 fours and two sixes in only 75 balls and, with Ramnaresh Sarwan and Brian Lara contributing brisk half-centuries of their own, West Indies overhauled the victory target with five overs to spare.

Sarwan finished on 77 not out while captain Lara smashed six fours and a six for an unbeaten 59 off just 37 deliveries as the tourists reached 300 for three.

The final match of the series is scheduled to be played in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

South Africa, who had led the series 2-0, piled on 297 for four after winning the toss, all-rounders Jacques Kallis and Lance Klusener sharing an unbroken century stand for the fifth wicket against a lacklustre attack.

Kallis, who scored hundreds in all four Tests against the West Indies and in the first One-day International, made 95 not out off 97 balls while Klusener was 41 not out off 38 balls.

Kallis hit seven fours and two sixes in his 46th international half-century as he and Klusener hammered 107 runs off 93 balls.

Captain Graeme Smith and Herschelle Gibbs shared 53 runs off 65 balls for the first wicket before Gibbs mistimed an on-drive to a ball from fast bowler Mervyn Dillon and was caught by Dwayne Smith at mid-on for 18 in the 11th over.

Pinch hitter Robin Peterson and Smith kept the runs flowing in a second-wicket stand of 55 that ended in the 19th over when Smith, who turned 23 on Sunday, was bowled by off spinner Chris Gayle with a delivery that speared the left-hander's guard and hit the top of leg stump.

South Africa lost their third wicket five overs later when Peterson cut hard at a delivery from fast bowler Ravi Rampaul and was deftly caught one-handed by Gayle in the gully for 36.

Boeta Dippenaar went in unfortunate fashion when he edged a ball from leg spinner Sarwan on to the back of his leg to be bowled for 30 in the 36th over.

In reply, West Indies also prospered with the bat, openers Gayle and Chanderpaul setting the tone by blazing 31 runs in less than five overs.

Although Gayle departed for 26 when he drove a ball from medium pacer Shaun Pollock uppishly into the covers, the visitors maintained the tempo.

Ricardo Powell helped Chanderpaul put on 61 for the second wicket before he played down the wrong line to a delivery from Kallis to be bowled for 34 in the 14th over.

Chanderpaul and Sarwan added a further 108 in 19 overs before Chanderpaul drove weakly at a wide Pollock delivery and was caught behind by wicket-keeper Mark Boucher. However Sarwan and Lara sealed the win in style, sharing an unbroken fourth-wicket partnership of 100 in just 75 balls.
