HYDERABAD, Jan 28: The Vice-Chancellor of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences on Wednesday constituted a team of specialists regarding the outbreak of leishmaniasis diseases in Dadu district.
The team will visit the affected areas of the district on Saturday and provide free treatment and advice preventive measures to the patients. The registrar of LUMHS said the university had held several free medical camps in affected areas of the district in 2002 and provided treatment and created awareness among people to prevent the disease.
The teams had also carried out detailed epidemiological and clinical investigations. He said this was one of the projects of the university for treatment, prevention and research in the cutaneous leishmaniasis.
He said a detailed report in this regard was sent to the Sindh health department. The registrar said the LUMHS had planned to help district health administration in providing laboratory facilities in diagnosing the cases.
ENTRY TEST: The entry test for admission to post-graduate diploma courses for the session 2004 was conducted at the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences on Wednesday. More than 500 candidates appeared in the test.
CPSP: The College of Physicians and Surgeons has notified that all trainees in obstetrics and gynaecology who will be appearing in FCPS-II examination in Nov 2005 and onward will have to acquire the STRAT OG (Distance Learning Programme in Obstetrics Gynaecology) after payment of specified charges as one of the eligibility requirements for appearing in this examination.
SU: The Sindh governor who is the chancellor of the Sindh university has appointed Prof Asif G. Qazi, Prof of the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Sindh, as new dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences of the university, up to his date of superannuation on June 30, 2005.
The Sindh governor has also appointed Prof Dr Abdul Sattar Ansari, professor of Department of Muslim History, University of Sindh, as new dean faculty of Islamic Studies, for a period of three years. The registrar of University of Sindh has issued a notification on Wednesday in this regard.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Department of Fresh Water Biology and Fisheries, University of Sindh, has announced that the M. Phil classes have been started in the Department of Fresh Water Biology and Fisheries. All the registered students have been directed to attend their classes regularly.
SAU: Teacher members of the syndicate of Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam, have expressed their gratitude to Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad for his decision of not granting extension to the former vice-chancellor and appointing the most senior professor of the university, Dr Bashir Shaikh, as the acting vice-chancellor of the university.
Prof Dr Rajab Ali Memon, Prof Amir Ali Qadri, Prof Dr Umaid Ali Buriro, Suresh Kumar Wadhwani, Riasat Ali Kubar, Mujahid Hussain Leghari placed it on record that the academics and the university community felt relieved after almost five years of autocratic management.
