HYDERABAD, Jan 28: A division bench of the Sindh High Court Hyderabad circuit ordered status quo in a no-confidence motion against the Nazim of Sheikh Bhirkio union council here on Tuesday following a statement by the DCO which termed it null and void.

DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed had termed the motion null and void on the ground that it had to be passed by a majority of the members under the Sindh Local Government Ordinance and said the Nazim could hold the office till notification by the district government regarding his removal.

UC Nazim Abdul Karim Talpur's counsel contended that the Naib Nazim had called a special meeting for consideration of the motion without observing formalities as he was interested in becoming the Nazim himself.

He said his client came to know about the meeting which he attended to raise objection to its legality and also to defend himself but he was not allowed to do so with the result that the motion was passed and the Naib Nazim became officiating Nazim.
