BD court convicts IG of contempt

By Our Correspondent

DHAKA, Jan 28: The High Court on Tuesday fined the Inspector General of Police, Shahudul Huq, Tk 2,000 and one month imprisonment in default for contempt of court, national dailies report on Wednesday.

The HC bench, comprising Justice MA Matin and Justice Syed Refat Ahmed, also fined three officers of traffic police in the case. "We find it difficult to accept the IGP's apology, apology may only be considered depending on the circumstances," the judges observed.

"After considering the facts and circumstances, we hold IGP Shahudul Huq guilty of gross contempt of court." Identifying the inspector-general as contemner, the court observed that it was beyond any doubt that he was liable for gross misconduct against the judge as well as the court.
