N-arsenal not in 'safe hands'

Published January 26, 2004

LAHORE, Jan 25: JUI amir Maulana Fazlur Rehman says President Pervez Musharraf's admission that nuclear technology might have been proliferated by some individuals for personal gains has established that the country's atomic programme is not in safe hands.

In a press statement here on Sunday, he said now Gen Musharraf should submit himself to a court and tell the nation the factual position. The Maulana said in neighbouring India nuclear scientists were being glorified while in Pakistan they were being humiliated.

He said in case the government did not stop its campaign, the MMA would give the nation a protest call, expressing solidarity with the scientists. The JUI leader said the campaign would adversely affect the future of thousands of nuclear scientists.
