Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Jan 25: Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has assured Federal Interior Minister Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat of all-out support on behalf of his government and party, the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, in efforts against terrorism.

Speaking to the federal minister on Saturday at the Frontier House, the chief minister also gave proposals to curb terrorism and anti-state activities in the tribal areas.

They agreed that negotiations with the tribal elders and Maliks would bring dividend, and it was the best option to resolve even the complicated issues of the tribal belt and its people.

The chief minister said coordinated efforts with the tribesmen help would lead to eliminate crime from the region. He also highlighted the role of tribal people, their customs and traditions, saying that they always remained ready to sacrifice every thing for the country. Any direct action in the tribal areas could create misunderstanding and desperation amongst them, he warned.

The chief minister termed the jirga institution the most genuine forum and said a decision of the tribal jirga was held in high esteem. The people followed and adhered to what their elders told to do. If the decision of the jirga was ignored, the tribesmen demolished the houses of violators. In view of these facts, he said, it was better to take them in confidence before taking decisions on their matters.
