Proposal to name series Imran-Kapil Trophy
NEW DELHI, Jan 24: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has received a proposal from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to name the trophy for India-Pakistan series as Imran-Kapil Trophy.
PCB suggested that it was the best way to honour the two great cricket heroes of the sub-continent, who under their captaincy won the World Cup for their respective countries, a report by Press Trust of India said.
The decision on whether the trophy could be named after the two great allrounders will be made after discussions with S.K. Nair, BCCI secretary, who is due to visit Pakistan next week.
Nair will be heading a delegation to Pakistan inorder to inspect match venues and also study on security arrangements for the series.
The tour itinerary will also be finalised after discussions between Nair and PCB officials. India is expected to play three Tests and five one-day internationals and a three-day warm-up match.
The duration of the tour will also be finalised during talks with Nair.
BCCI has proposed that the tour should not be longer than 35 days and that they would like to play the one-day series before the Tests. However, PCB wants to start off with the Test series.
Meanwhile, according to PTI, Kapil Dev, who is in Mumbai, on hearing about the proposal to name the upcoming series as Imran-Kapil Trophy, said: "No one has told me about such a proposal. Let us wait and see if at all such a proposal will come through. If it does, I will consider it a big honour."
PCB has also informed BCCI that they will be organising a grand opening ceremony for the series before the start of first Test. All former captains and top players from both the countries will be invited and honoured at the ceremony.-PPI
