FAISALABAD, Jan 24: The All Pakistan Sizing Industries Association has decided to close units and hold demonstrations in case the police failed to prevent crime.

A meeting of the association, presided over by its chairman Mirza Shafiq, noted with concern that 10 to 12 incidents of heinous crimes were being committed in the district daily. Industrialists, traders and exporters have been the targets.

The meeting was informed that senior police officials had been informed about the escalating rate of crime but to no avail.

It urged the governor, chief minister and the IGP to direct the local police to trace the culprits involved in committing dacoities in the houses of local traders, industrialists and exporters.

It decided that in case appropriate measurers were not taken by the local police to protect the lives and properties of the people within next couple of days, the association would be left with no option but to protest on roads and close industrial units in protest.

Later, the sizing units' owners held a demonstration outside the offices of the association. They chanted slogans against the police and demanded immediate action against lethargic officials.

Meanwhile, robbers and dacoits looted thousands of rupees, gold ornaments and hijacked a car in three incidents here on Saturday.

Four masked men snatched thousands of rupees and gold ornaments from the family members of Liaquat Ali in Liaquatabad.

A gang of armed men looted thousands of rupees and gold ornaments, worth Rs300,000, from the house of Sajjad in Chak 215 RB.

Armed men took away the car (No LHV 4858) of Shakoor in Garthal village.
