Differences in Sindh coalition resolved

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 23: Differences in the ruling coalition of Sindh were apparently resolved here on Friday at a meeting in the Prime Minister's Secretariat as the group of about 20 MPAs led by provincial ministers Imtiaz Sheikh and Arbab Ghulam Rahim withdrew their demand for the removal of Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar.

It was decided at the meeting presided over by Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali that two committees would work to resolve disputes. A 'core committee', will comprise Chief Minister Mahar, Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Imtiaz Sheikh and Syed Sardar Ahmad of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement. A political committee led by the chief minister will include a nominee of each of the allied parties.

The core committee will resolve all the disputes at the provincial level and the political committee will finalize development schemes. Mr Sheikh told newsmen after the meeting that all the disputes had been resolved and his group would abide by the decision of the leaders.

The meeting was attended by PML chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Hamid Nasir Chattha, Chief Minister Mahar and his Sindh cabinet members Irfanullah Marwat, Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Dr Saeeda Malik, Imtiaz Sheikh, Irfan Gul Magsi, Ijaz Ali Shah Shirazi and Mir Manzoor Khan Panhwar.

An official announcement quoted the prime minister as having asked the chief minister to work in close liaison with all the coalition partners and to maintain unity in their ranks.

"The coalition partners must act in complete unison with a view to resolving the problems being faced by people," the premier said. He also expressed his support to the chief minister.

The prime minister said that the PML had always believed in politics of consensus and accommodation and it would continue to uphold these principles in future, adds APP. The meeting also considered ways and means for overcoming organizational weaknesses.
