'Fata reforms will be enforced in phases'
Bureau Report
PESHAWAR, Jan 23: Governor Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said that reforms package for the Federally-Administered Tribal Area (Fata) will be implemented in phases.
He said that in the first phase re-organization of the Khasadar force has been started to give it a better package and service structure. Talking to reporters at Parachinar, Kurram Agency, on Thursday the governor pointed out that the reforms package of Fata would encompass four different aspects including administrative, judicial, financial and law enforcement organizations.
He said that implementation on the amendments in the FCR could only be made effective if organized law enforcement system exists at local level in each agency and that is why the government has decided to organise the Khasadar force at the first step.
Answering a question, he said, the establishment of the Fata Secretariat in Peshawar was an administrative matter to eliminate the chances of unnecessary delay in the uplift of the tribal areas.
Mr Shah during his visit inspected a number of development projects at Parachinar, the agency's headquarters, and inaugurated three newly completed schemes which would cost Rs27.345 million.
The projects included an irrigation scheme which would irrigate 1,100 acres of land. Under the scheme 13 abandoned tube- wells have also been restored. He also inaugurated a newly constructed students' hostel and a hall at the Degree College for Women which has been completed at a total cost of about Rs8 million.
