LAYYAH, Jan 23: The district Nazim has stopped education officers from conducting annual inspections of 1,545 schools in the district. The Nazim issued these directions on Friday after receiving a number of complaints against the officers of getting bribe.

An inquiry revealed that the education officers received gifts and cash for giving 'favourable' report. The gifts were purchased from the money forcibly collected from the salaries of teachers and forced contribution from students.

The Nazim called the EDO in his office and directed him to immediately stop annual school inspections in all three tehsils, Layyah, Karor Lal Esan and Choubara, of the district.

The inspections were being carried out by two district education officers, one male and one female, six male and female deputy district education officers along with their assistant education officers.

The Nazim took a strong exception to the slackness of EDO (education) which encouraged his subordinate staff to indulge in malpractice.
