Delegations for SASF meeting named

ISLAMABAD, Jan 21: Randhir Singh and Suresh Kalmadi will be at the head of a nine-man strong Indian delegation to the South Asian Sports Federation (SASF) meeting to be held here on Jan 31.

The delegation members of all the seven participating countries have been named by the respective olympic associations for the meeting which will review the preparations for the 9th SAF (South Asian Federation) Games to be held here from March 29 to April 7.

India's 9-member delegation will be bigger-albeit the biggest- than even the host Pakistan Olympic Association's 4-member delegation. Randhir Singh is also the secretary general of OCA while Suresh Kalmadi is the president of National Olympic Committee of India (IOA).

Other members of the delegation will be: Vijay Kumar Malhotra, vice-president IOA; Avinash Kohli, vice-president IOA; Muhammad Aslam Khan, vice president IOA; R.K. Anand, associate vice-president; Raja K.S. secretary Punjab Olympic Association, Salahuddin Aziz Qureshi and Shilpi Shakt Saxena.

Pakistan's delegation will be led by member International Olympic Committee, Syed Shahid Ali, who will also chair the meeting in his capacity as acting president SASF.

Other members named for the Pakistan delegation are: Muhammad Latif Butt, secretary general Pakistan Olympic Association; S.H. Shah, treasurer POA and Muhammad Nawaz Kasuri, advisor POA.

Rukma Shamsher Rana, president of National Olympic Committee of Nepal and Anil P. Sharma, executive member NOC, will represent Nepal while Dhruba Kumar Chhetri will be the lone official from Bhutan.

Abdul Saboor Azizi and Syed Zakray Nasar will be the two representatives of Afghanistan while Hemasiri Fernando (president NOC) and H.U. Silva (secretary general) will speak on behalf of Sri Lanka.

The secretary general of Bangladesh Olympic Association, Zafar Imam, will represent Bangladesh. The respective delegations will converge in Pakistan's capital city on Jan 29 and 30.-APP
