KARACHI, Jan 20: Seeded cueists Mirza Shadab Baig and Mukhtar Khan crashed out of the 12th Sindh Cup snooker on Tuesday. Shakir Rafiq produced a sterling show to eliminate third seed and former Sindh champion Shadab 4-0 to storm into the quarterfinals. Shakir with his superior potting and safety play dominated the match from start to finish.
Also joining Shakir in the last eight round include top seed Kashif Khan, Sohail Shahzad Jr, Muhammad Amin and Muhammad Jamshed. Jamshed caused the other surprise when he ousted eight seed Mukhtar 4-2. Jamshed recovered after dropping the first frame to topple fancied Mukhtar.
Holder Kashif Khan of Sindh Police was given a testing time by Saqib Zia before winning it 4-3 Sohail Shahzad Junior chalked out a brilliant break of 89 in his 4-1 victory against Hanif Majeed Bakhsh.
Muhammad Amin of Larkana continued his fine run of play by securing berth in the last eight stage with 4-2 triumph against Haider Taj Muhammad of Hyderabad.Kashif had won the first couple of frames. But Saqib pulled it back by taking the next frame.
Kashif regained two frame lead by pocketing the fourth frame before Saqib rallied back to the next two at trot to par term 3-all. The decisive 7th frame was fiercely fought and Kashif just managed to do it with 47-45 winner.
