HYDERABAD, Jan 20: The All Qasimabad Shopkeepers Welfare Association on Monday took out a protest procession against lawlessness, extortion, robberies and other crimes in the area.
The procession started from Naseem Nagar Mori and after marching through the main roads terminated at the Shaikh Ayaz Chowk. Speaking on the occasion, People's Party Parliamentarians leader and Qasimabad Coordination Committee coordinator Jam Saqi, Shopkeepers Association president Tanvir Shaikh, Sindh National Council member Punhal Sario and others said the authorities should take steps to control criminal activities in the taluka.
They also condemned what they called the indifferent attitude of officials of the Hyderabad Development Authority, Water and Sanitation Agency, Hesco and other organizations towards residents of Qasimabad. PPP MPA Zahid Bhurgari said he would raise problems confronting the people of Qasimabad in the Sindh Assembly.
POWER THEFT: Hesco teams appointed by the regional manager, maintenance and testing, Sukkur, in December 2003 checked 1,287 power connections, out of which theft was detected in 442 connections and the speed of 92 meters was found slow.
According to a spokesman for the company, in checked 556 domestic connections, power theft was detected in 356 connections and 33 meters were found running slow, in 167 commercial connections, theft was detected in 64 connections and 19 meters were found slow, in 391 industrial connections, theft was detected in 17 connections and 35 meters were found slow and in 35 agricultural connections, theft was detected in five connections and one meter was found slow. The Hesco teams also checked 35 small factories and found four meters slow.
