MQM slams operation against its workers

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 19: Mohajir Qaumi Movement has appealed to President Gen Musharraf and superior judiciary to take suo moto notice of unjustified operation against the party, demanding justice and restoration of the occupied party offices from the "terrorists" of Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

The MQM central executive committee reviewed the alleged year-long ongoing "operation" against the party by the government and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

Expressing concern over uncalled for arrests of its workers and leaders, who were allegedly deprived of their freedom under MPO and were being re-arrested soon after release under judicial orders.

The meeting noted that despite keeping the president and other state institutions informed about excesses against the party workers by "terrorists" forcing Mohajir youths to live fugitive life, the government had failed to provide security to them.

According to a press release, "If the government failed to act with in 15 days, the workers of the party would be free to adopt their own line of action to get back possession of their areas from the terrorists and in the process if any untoward incident happened its onus would lie with the government."
