LAHORE, Jan 19: The Lahore District Council on Monday condemned the undue bureaucratic interference in the district government's affairs to undermine its working besides expressing resentment over lifting of kite-flying ban in the provincial metropolis.

The councillors stood up on their seats during the meeting held at the Jinnah Hall here with District Naib Nazim Farooq Amjad Mir in the chair.

They discussed the management of the City District Schools and unanimously adopted Navid Sadiq's resolution against restraining the District Nazim from ordering postings and transfers of teachers in the CDG schools and take them to task for inefficiency.

The councillors were of the view that the bureaucracy was interfering in the City District Government affairs to sabotage its efforts to improve the standard of education in its schools.

They appealed to the Punjab government to intervene and check undue interference in the CDG affairs. They also resolved to take out a protest procession in case undue interference was not stop forthwith.

Navid Sadiq criticized the withdrawal of the kite-flying ban by the Punjab provincial government while ignoring the losses to life and property on account of it.

He announced that FIRs would be lodged against Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and the Parks and Horticulture Authority director-general in case of any loss of life on account of kite-flying.

The councillors also stressed the need for lifting of the ban on recruitment of sanitary workers, maidservants and peons in CDG schools and free of charge allotment of plots in the Lahore Development Authority schemes for construction of government schools.

They also criticized the unsatisfactory performance of franchised bus services in the city district. Councillor Nasir Daniel participated in the council session while squatting on the floor to condemn the recent terrorist attacks on President Gen Pervez Musharraf and the Bible Society in Karachi.

District Naib Nazim Farooq Amjad Mir informed the meeting that out of the 150 union council Nazims, 115 had submitted proposals for the constitution of the schools management committees in their constituencies. He asked the remaining Nazims to submit their proposals by Saturday so that the committees could be notified.
