KARACHI, Jan 15: The BSC classes at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences and Technology have been deferred till Jan 20. The teaching activities for the new session and commencement of examinations for the first batch of the varsity were scheduled for Jan 15. However, examinations of about 600 BSc class students were held in a peaceful environment at the new block of the Gulshan-i-Iqbal campus of the varsity in the afternoon, said a varsity official.
Sources at the campus said that classes had been delayed in view of recent clashes between two groups of students. The last confrontation between the groups on the Gulshan campus on Wednesday had resulted in the arrest of 35 activists from both sides.
Campus remained tense on Thursday, however, no untoward incident was reported. A senior teacher informed this scribe that degree classes had been delayed for want of accommodation and furniture for about 1,100 students admitted to the new academic session, while teaching and practical schedule was also being finalized. Studies of the intermediate students of the Urdu Science College continued at the campus as per schedule.
