KARACHI: Another access road for Orangi planned

KARACHI, Jan 14: Work has started for providing another access road for Orangi Town. Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has asked the National Highway Authority to take up the work on priority basis.

Currently there is only one access road for Orangi Town. The governor has also ordered the submission of a plan for the construction of a road from the Thar coal field with Karachi and Hyderabad in view of future needs.

He asked the NHA to start work on lighting and improvement of the median from Sohrab Goth to Toll Plaza under the Tamir-i-Karachi programme and on road schemes to be started with the cooperation of the Steel Mills.

He asked the city government to extend cooperation regarding the right of way. He said the Steel Mills would bear the cost of the road linking the National Highway with the Super Highway.

The NHA would be the executing agency, but the ownership rights would rest with the city government, he said. He also directed the NHA to work on the Hino Chowk and Gulbai-Mauripur road projects under the specified timeframe.-APP
