KARACHI: Sites for security cameras

KARACHI, Jan 14: Preliminary measures have been finalized for installation of close circuit cameras at sensitive locations of all the entry and exit points throughout the province.

These arrangements include identification of sites and required funds. According to the police sources the cameras will help in keeping a watch on the activities of anti-social elements and checking crimes like kidnapping for ransom, car-lifting and highway robberies.

These secret cameras will not only monitor the movement of vehicles but identification of their occupants will also be possible through them. One hundred locations have been identified in Karachi for installation of the cameras, and 17 of them have been installed at 10 locations. The system has already been introduced at five-star hotels and other important buildings.

CAMPAIGN: The traffic police have started a campaign against the buses, mini buses and coaches allowing male passengers into the ladies' compartments and those not having separate portions for ladies.

During the campaign 608 vehicles were impounded in the last two days. A total of 228 vehicles were challaned and 145 were impounded in Zone I, 197 were challaned and 160 impounded in Zone II, while 222 and 111 were challaned and 192 and 111 were impounded respectively in Zone III and Zone IV.-PPI
