KARACHI, Jan 13: A young man was gunned down by unknown persons at a crowded place in F.B. Area late Monday night. Police said Salahuddin, 36, was sitting at a shop in a commercial area near Arshi Heights, when two men on a motorcycle stopped close to him.
Police said one of the suspects came down from the motorcycle and approached the victim and shot him dead. The two suspects later managed to escape. Police investigations revealed that Salahuddin was staying at his brother's house in Arshi Heights and had received a call on his cellular phone asking him to come to the commercial area.
ENCOUNTER: A notorious bandit was killed while his associate was arrested by the Quaidabad police near Kalapul in the Frere police limits on Tuesday evening.
SHO Quaidabad Tahir Zaidi told Dawn that a group of bandits on Tuesday looted a mills and killed a security guard. During the dacoity, one of the bandits was also killed by other security guards. The bandit's body was removed to the JPMC.
Spin Gul, the main suspect, later came to receive the body of his friend. As soon as he saw police near Kalapul, he opened fire on the police. The police returned the fire which resulted in injuries to Spin Gul. He was shifted to the JPMC where he died.
However, police arrested his accomplice Asad and recovered a TT pistol. SHO Zaidi, told Dawn that the Spin Gul, was facing at least 35 criminal cases in Malir town and some six-months back had escaped from the Malir Courts with handcuffs. Since then he was absconding and was committing robberies.
SUICIDE: A housewife committed suicide in her home in Sachal police limits on Tuesday. Police said Zeenat, 30, in a fit of depression, hanged herself in Bhittai Abad. Her body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
ACCIDENT: A young man was hit by a passenger coach near Al-Asif Square on Tuesday. Police said M. Abdullah, 40, was crossing the road when he was hit by a coach (PE-5921).
INJURED: Fourteen passengers received injuries when a truck collided with a passenger coach on Superhighway early Tuesday morning. Police said the accident occurred due to early morning fog which had reduced visibility. The injured were taken to Abbasi Shaheed hospital for treatment.
CRUSHED: An unknown woman in her mid-40s was hit by a locomotive at Drig Road Railway Station on Tuesday. The victim who died on the spot appeared to a beggar, police said. The body was shifted to the JPMC by the police.
