E-commerce moot opens

KARACHI, Jan 11: Prof Dr Attaur Rahman, federal minister in charge, science and technology, on Sunday called for focussing more on e-business in Pakistan, as there existed a vast scope for its exports.

"The investment in e-commerce is growing fast world over and according to certain estimates, the e-commerce would have a share of 10 to 15 per cent in the total world trade in near future," he said, speaking at the inaugural session of "E-business 2004" at a local hotel.

The event has been organized by the Asia Pacific Council for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business, representing 17 countries, including Pakistan and India. The programme, that will continue till Jan 16, includes meeting of 14 joint working groups, 21st plenary conference and a show on e-business. - PPI
