DERA GHAZI KHAN, Jan 11: The girl who was kidnapped by driver Riaz of Civil Judge Abdul Razzaq Qureshi was forced to deny the incident before police and press, family told Dawn on Sunday.

Qadeer told this correspondent in Taunsa Sharif that his sister Khalida Parveen was kidnapped on Jan 6 with the help of her namesake who works at the residence of Judge Qureshi.

He said that his sister was inside the house when people were protesting outside against Judge Qureshi and his driver. Khalida was taken to the clinic of Dr Asghar Chishti through the back door of the house around 12 noon when the people were still protesting.

She fell unconscious for some time when Dr Chishti administered her an injection and a drip. She remained in the clinic of Dr Chishti between the night of Jan 6 and 7.

The kidnappers also contacted Maulvi Allah Dad who refused to solemnize the nikah of Khalida with driver Riaz because of her condition and in the absence of the father, brother or mother of the girl.

The girl told her family that Dr Chishti and other kidnappers had threatened to kill her mother, father and brother if she did not deny that she was kidnapped.

From the clinic, she was taken to the office of an Urdu-language daily on the morning of Jan 7 where she gave the statement according to the dictates of the accused. Later, she was handed over to police.

A frightened and disturbed Khalida met her family in the record room of police station and told them the true story. The family took her to the court of Civil Judge Allah Ditta Anjum where she recorded statement against Judge Qureshi, his driver Riaz, namesake Khalida and Dr Asghar Chishti.

The family said they had submitted four applications with the staff of Judge Anjum. "The staff say the statement has been sealed," Qadeer said.

Judge Anjum was not available for comments. The family said they were moving to a 'secure' place because the accused were threatening them with dire consequences.

Dr Chishti told this correspondent that Khalida remained in his clinic on Jan 6 for an hour for treatment. Later, she left with another girl. Dr Chishti claimed that Khalida was standing outside his clinic when he came there on the morning of Jan 7. "The girl told me that her parents would kill her and I asked her to go to the office of a newspaper," Dr Chishti said.

Sources said a departmental inquiry against Judge Qureshi and his driver was under way. Reports of intelligence agencies have also been against the judge and his driver.

Advocate Safdar Shah, who was present when Khalida gave statement before press, told Dawn that at that time the girl seemed confused, frightened and tired.

Human rights activist Basit Khan of Taunsa Sharif and Dera Ghazi Khan Press Club president Ashraf Buzdar have demanded a judicial inquiry into the matter.
