KARACHI, Jan 10: Four armed men committed a bank robbery in Bohra Pir, the old city area, on Saturday morning. A senior police official said police had engaged two cashiers and a guard of the bank in the investigation process.

The surveillance cameras installed in the bank captured the scene of the robbery, which is being examined by the investigating officials.

DSP Investigation Gul Hameed Samoo told Dawn that four armed men entered the one-room bank around 9:23am, took hostage the entire staff and a visitor at gunpoint and decamped with Rs1.6 million.

He said the safe was open at the time of the robbery and no one pushed the button of the security alarm. Besides, he said, there was no vault in the bank and an iron safe was used to keep the cash.

PANIC: The sounds of three powerful explosions one after the other rudely awakened people and created panic in a part of Shah Faisal Colony in the wee hours on Saturday.

According to a spokesman for the ISPR, a routine exercise was carried out by the Pakistan Air Force.

"We have prior information in this respect", a senior police official said.
