Navy maintain supremacy: Irshad outstanding marksman


KARACHI, Jan 8: Navy shooters maintained supremacy in the National Shooting Championship by retaining the title on Thursday at Naval Shooting Range.

Navy picked three more golds on the final day in standard pistol through Zahid Ali, team gold in the same besides scooping the big bore pistol open event.

Navy trio of Zahid, Irshad Ali and Kashif Riaz claimed the standard pistol gold with 1676/1800 points. Mustaqeem Shah, Idrees and Kabeer snatched the silver and PAF's M.Younus, Zafar Iqbal and M.Iqbal bagged the bronze.

Irshad emerged as the outstanding marksman of the event capturing two individual gold, two silver and two team gold.

Navy ended with 39 medal including 19 gold, 12 silver and eight bronze while Army finishing runners-up with five gold, 12 silver and eight bronze medals and Sindh securing third spot with two gold, as many silver and a bronze medal.

Babur Baig produced an outstanding performance on the final day by snatching skeet gold against top class shooters including Olympian Khurram Inam, overnight leader Amin Karamat and Ahmed Sultan.

Babur finished on the top with 141/150 points. Navy's Muhammad Shafiq was second a point behind and Ahmed Sultan got third spot with 139/150

This was Sindh's second gold after it finished first in the team skeet on Wednesday. Now on the basis of performances and score, National Rifle Association (NRAP) will select probables to attend a training camp for the upcoming SAF Games in Islamabad starting from March 29.
