Private van breaks VVIP security cordon
By Our Staff Reporter
RAWALPINDI, Jan 8: Police are looking for a van driver who broke the security cordon during President Gen Pervez Musharraf's movement on Islamabad Highway on Wednesday.
Police said a pick-up van appeared from Burki Filling Station after breaking the security cordon. "Attempts were made to stop the van and arrest the driver, but the vehicle speded away," traffic police official Mohammad Iqbal said in his complaint.
He said he was on the VVIP duty on the highway when a pick-up van broke the security cordon due to negligence of the filling station staff. A case has been registered against the unidentified van driver and the manager of the filling station. However, no arrests have been made so far.
Since the suicide bomb attacks on the president on December 25, the government has directed all filling station owners to build security walls around their premises and restrict exit and entry of vehicles during VVIP movements.
