TOBA TEK SINGH, Jan 8: Water courses in the district will be bricklined under the US-Aid programme. This was stated here on Thursday by Punjab rural support programme incharge Chaudhry Ashraf in a meeting which was presided over by district Nazim Chaudhry Ashfaq.

He said Rs3 million had been sanctioned under the programme for the purpose.Mr Ashraf said for the execution of any scheme under the programme, there was a condition that 25 per cent of total cost would be borne by an industrial unit or the district government.

He directed the officials concerned to send him similar schemes before Jan 20. MNA Mian Farhan Latif said on the occasion that five filter plants would soon be established to supply clean drinking water to the citizens.

COMPENSATION: The district government has directed the regional transport authority secretary to seek applications from the heirs of the people who had died in accidents in the district to get financial aid.

An official told Dawn here on Thursday that most of the heirs never filed application to get compensation although there were sufficient funds for the purpose with the department. He said the RTA secretary should himself contact the heirs so that they could get compensation.

ELECTED UNOPPOSED: Mian Tahir Abbas was elected unopposed on Wednesday as District Bar Association (DBA) joint secretary as his rival candidate Chaudhry Mubashir Ali withdrew his nomination papers. Polling will be held on Jan 15.
