NAWABSHAH, Jan 8: Activists of the Pakistan People's Party (Shaheed Bhutto) took out a protest procession here on Thursday against the greater Thal canal and Kalabagh dam projects.

Led by Sindh PPP-SB president Mian Khan Rind and district chief Ali Gul Keerio, the protesters also demanded arrest of the killers of Mir Murtaza Bhutto.

The procession started from the Quaid-i-Awam University and reached at the Chakla Bazaar after marching through the main thoroughfares. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rind warned that they would besiege the Sindh Assembly building if the disputed water projects were not abandoned.

He said that the people of Sindh would come out on roads against what he called anti-Sindh projects. He said that the Sindh government had failed to provide relief to the people and the law and order situation was deteriorating. Mr Keerio also spoke on the occasion.

STATEMENT CRITICIZED: Nawabshah District Public Safety Commission chairman Jam Feroze Unnar has criticized the statement of the adviser to Sindh chief minister on home affairs, Aftab Ahmad Shaikh, in which he said that selection of the Nawabshah DPSC chairman would be made soon.

Talking to journalists here on Thursday, Mr Unnar said that he was elected as the commission chairman on Nov 17, 2003. He said that a meeting of the DPSC was also held on Thursday which passed a unanimous resolution, deploring the statement of Mr Shaikh.

BODY FOUND: The body of an unidentified person was found at the Nawabshah Railway Station on Thursday. Edhi volunteers buried the body.
