National Vehicle Authority being planned

KARACHI, Jan 6: A plan for establishing the National Vehicle Authority is under consideration, whereby the motor registration departments of all the four provinces will be centralized to the proposed data bank in Islamabad.

This was stated by Citizen-Police Liaison Committee Chief Sharfuddin Memon while briefing Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Rauf Siddiqui during the latter's visit to the CPLC office here on Tuesday. Mr Memon told the minister that through the data bank, the province could share the data and obtain information about any vehicle.

The minister was also informed about the motor registration wing and was provided complete details of the irregularities that were being committed in the wing. He was also briefed about the vehicles using duplicate number plates.

The CPLC chief informed the minister that a modern call centre on the pattern of '911' has been established at CPLC where on communication of information about car snatching or theft at 5682222, the same is passed on to provincial police, which immediately take action and arrest the car lifter or the person driving a vehicle with fake number plate.

The minister appreciated the efforts made by Sharfuddin Memon and his staff for streamlining the working of CPLC on modern lines. He expressed hope that the CPLC would greatly help checking the vehicle theft and bringing the elements involved in this heinous trade to book. Mr Siddiqui appealed to people to cooperate with the CPLC, identify the criminals and help in the seizure of lifted or stolen vehicles. -APP
