KARACHI, Jan 4: The Islami Jamiat Talaba has alleged that certain irregularities in Karachi University affairs are being committed under pressure of a political party.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, the IJT leaders, including Nauman Ahmad, Amir Ashraf, Tauseef Ahmad and others, have urged the president and the prime minister to intervene in the affairs to save one of the premier education institutions of the country.

They said that a political party, which was a coalition partner of the provincial government, was interfering into the administrative and educational matters of the university.

The IJT leaders said that many political activists had been employed on sensitive administrative as well as educational posts in the university on the basis of their political affiliation.

It was alleged that a few days back, the university vice- chancellor was handed over a list of names for recruitments and promotions on certain posts within a certain time, or he was threatened to be sacked.

They said that such actions were creating and spread-ing unrest among the staff as well as students of the university. The IJT leaders warned that if proper measures were not taken against certain irregularities students and teachers would suffer the most.
