HYDERABAD, Jan 4: Drawing teachers held a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Saturday against discriminatory attitude of the authorities against them.

Talking to journalists, Drawing Teachers' Association leaders Mukhtiar Memon and others said that drawing teachers of Hyderabad, Badin, Nawabshah, Sanghar and Thatta had been denied running scale and they had not been given increments since 1990.

They said it was despite the fact that throughout the country, teachers were given running scale and demanded that the drawing teachers of the five districts should also be given running scale.

They further demanded that drawing teachers who were master's degree holders should be given grade 16. They said that the Sindh education secretary had directed the education EDOs of the five districts to grant running scale to drawing teachers but the directives were disregarded.

TRANSFERS: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association, at a meeting here on Saturday, crticized political interference in the educational institutions.

The meeting, presided over by Professor Sher Khan Salero, pointed out that some teachers of the Tando Adam girls college had been transferred due to political interference while four others were illegally relieved and they had not been paid their salaries for the last three months.

The meeting observed that three women teachers of the Sanghar girls college had also been transferred. It deplored that the SPLA had repeatedly invited the attention of the Sindh government to the prevailing state of affairs but in vain.
