By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 3: The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO), Justice (Retd) Saleem Akhtar, has asked Central Board of Revenue (CBR) to cancel assessments framed in cases of four complainants in violation of law.

The FTO recommended CBR to direct the commissioner to cancel the assessments framed for the years 1996-97 and 1997-98 in the case of the four complainants.

The decision was taken on the complaint of four complainants namely Faisal Sayid; Mst. Ummee Kalsum; Mst. Ruhi Sayid and Aizad Sayid who complained against the tax officials for misuse of authority in exercise of their power.

The FTO further said that an inquiry should be conducted adhering to law, rules and procedure to determine whether the complainants owned movable, immovable assets, which were not offered for assessment.

Further action, if called for, be initiated adhering to relevant law, the FTO said.

The justice said the compliance be reported within 30 days of the receipt of this order.
