India names Azlan Shah squad


NEW DELHI, Jan 2: The Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) has announced an 18-man squad for the Sultan Azlan Shah Tournament starting in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia from Jan 8.

The team will be captained by Dhanraj Pillay, back in the side after having been rested for the Afro-Asian Games. The other senior members in the squad are goalkeeper Kamaldeep Singh and former captain Baljit Singh Dhillion.

The rest of the team consists of members from the junior team. India's opening game at the tournament is against European champions Germany on the 8th. They then take on arch rivals Pakistan on the 9th, host Malaysia on the 11th, bronze medallists from the Sydney Olympics Australia on the 13th.

India will take on Asian Games winners South Korea on the 14th and Spain on the 16th. The team will be coached by Junior Team coach Harinder Singh with the senior team coach Rajinder Singh along as an observer.
