MJAH won't quit MMA

Published January 3, 2004

LAHORE, Jan 2: A dissident MMA leader alleged on Friday that Qazi Husain Ahmad and Maulana Fazlur Rehman had made the religious alliance subservient to Gen Musharraf.

Senator Prof Sajid Mir, head of the Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith, said in a statement that despite difference of opinion his party would not part ways with the MMA. Instead, he said, it would try to reform the alliance as well as the rulers.

He was proud of his vote against Gen Musharraf. He denied that the meeting which decided to strike a deal with the government was held under his chairmanship.

He said he had refused to preside over the meeting after which Maulana Fazlur Rehman conducted the proceedings. Prof Mir said like Gen Musharraf, the MMA had also its LFO, which was with Qazi Husain Ahmad and Maulana Fazlur Rehman.- Staff Reporter
