LAHORE: PU to set up engg research centre

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, Jan 2: The Punjab University has decided to set up an engineering research centre at the Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (ICET) to offer state-of-the-art research facilities to its scholars pursuing M.Phil and Ph.D.

This was announced by PU vice-chancellor Arshad Mahmood while speaking to the M.Phil and Ph.D students of the ICET at his office, here on Friday. The VC advised the students to develop a scientific inquiry, mathematical reasoning and logical thought while undertaking any research project.

He stressed that the scholars should go for specializations in different fields of chemical engineering and technology for the best utilization of resources available in the country. He also asked the researchers to prepare one quality research paper every year.

Earlier, ICET director Prof Dr Arif Butt elaborated on the institute's links with the industry. The institute, he said, had developed close collaborations with the LCCI, Qarshi Industries, Dawood Hercules as well as signed an MoU with the PCSIR laboratories.

Dr Arif said the PU was a pioneer university offering Ph.D in the field of chemical engineering, and it had produced three out of the four Ph.D scientists in the country.
